The people’s confidence over government scheme hajj has increased manifold since taking over reins of government by pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony was told Wednesday.
Briefing the committee here on Wednesday the officials of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony told the committee that 5,000 less applications from total available seats of government hajj scheme were received in the year 2012.
The number of applications were persistently increased since 2013. And this year 374,557 applications were received for Government Hajj Scheme against the quota of 120,000.
The meeting was told that the government has retained the hajj expenses of Rs 270,000 and Rs 280,000 despite per haji increase of Rs 45,000 in government scheme.
Government has decided to pay the additional amount. Meeting was told that 10,000 seats have been reserved in the government hajj scheme for haji of over 80 years age and 12,235 applicants have been selected this year from those, who had failed to wind berth in government hajj scheme in consecutive last three years.
The meeting, chaired by Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri was attended by Raja Muhammad Zafar ul Haq,Professor Sajid Mir,Siraj ul Haq,Abida Muhammad Azeem and Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousaf and high ranking officials of the minsitry.

According to Hajj Policy 2018, 179,210 Pakistanis would perform Hajj this year. Out of which 119,473 would perform Hajj under Government Hajj Scheme, while 59,737 Pakistanis would perform Hajjthrough private Hajj scheme.
He said the government has enhanced facilities for government hajj scheme this year.
The services of new basses were being hired for the intending pilgrims.
Two percent quota of total seats of Government Hajj Scheme would be reserved for the hardship, broken families, newly born infant cases, and applicants belonging to the far flung/rural areas. Likewise, 500 seats have been reserved for low paid employees.
Labours of public sector, corporate organizations, companies registered with Employees Old age Benefits Institutions (EOBI)/Workers Welfare Fund sponsored by their respective organistions under their corporate social responsibility.
Frenchman commits suicide at Makkah’s Grand Mosque

A Frenchman has committed suicide by throwing himself off the roof of the Grand Mosque in Islam’s holiest city of Makkah, Saudi and French officials said on Saturday.
“A foreigner threw himself from the roof of the Grand Mosque in Makkah” to the courtyard below, “resulting in his instant death”, Saudi police told the official SPA news agency.
A French foreign ministry official told AFP in Paris that the dead man was French but gave no further details.
The rare act was not the first of its kind to take place in Makkah, the holiest city in Islam — which, like other monotheistic religions, prohibits suicide.
The body was transported to hospital, with an investigation underway “to determine the victim’s identity, what led to the act and how he was able to commit it despite the existence of a metal fence”, SPA said.
Last year, a Saudi man tried to set himself on fire in front of the Kaaba — the square stone building in the centre of the mosque compound — but was stopped by security forces.
Every year, millions of Muslim pilgrims from across the world travel to Makkah and Madina, Islam’s second holiest site, also in western Saudi Arabia.
